SQL Server Database Administrator
Job Summary:
The SQL Server DBA will be responsible for the performance, integrity, and security of SQL Server databases. This role involves ensuring the availability of database systems, implementing backup and recovery strategies, and optimizing database performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Database Management: Install, configure, and upgrade SQL Server instances and databases.
- Performance Tuning: Monitor and optimize database performance, including query optimization and indexing strategies.
- Backup and Recovery: Implement and manage backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and availability.
- Security Management: Manage database security, including user access and permissions, to protect sensitive data.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve database issues, including performance bottlenecks and connectivity problems.
- Maintenance: Perform regular maintenance tasks, such as database integrity checks and updates to database statistics.
- Documentation: Maintain up-to-date documentation of database configurations, procedures, and policies.
- Automation: Automate SQL server tasks to ensure consistent and repeatable executions.
- Collaboration: Work with application developers to design and optimize database schemas and queries.
- Disaster Recovery: Develop and implement disaster recovery plans for database systems.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with data governance and regulatory requirements.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Proven experience as a SQL Server DBA or similar role, typically 3-5 years.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in SQL Server database management and administration.
- Good knowledge of SQL Server related services (Reporting Services, Integration services, etc.).
- Awareness and experience in implementing security standards.
- Strong knowledge of T-SQL and database programming.
- Familiarity with SQL Server tools such as SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS).
- Experience with performance tuning and optimization techniques.
- Understanding of backup, recovery, and disaster recovery strategies.
- Other Technologies: Good knowledge about other technologies like PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, and SCOM is a plus.
- Soft Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities.
Working Conditions:
The role may require occasional on-call support and may involve working outside normal business hours during emergencies. Your main goal will be to deliver a reliable and sustainable service.
